Becoming a Wedding Planner

Each Saturday, across the country, thousands of weddings are taking place.  Each of these weddings is, and should be, one of the happiest days in the lives of the couple.  To make this happen, each wedding ceremony and reception is backed up by months or even years.   This kind of planning can drive the bride to be and her family nuts.  That’s why so many couples are turning to wedding planners to make their weddings beautiful and stress free.

Wedding Planning Training
Strictly speaking, there is no formal training required of a wedding planner.  Starting a wedding planning business could be as simple as obtaining a business license.  However, in order to ensure you’re ready for the job and give some reassurance to your potential customers a training course may be desirable.

The Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants is a national organization celebrating nineteen years as the primary registered training and certification program for Wedding Consultants. The course is registered by the Department of Consumer Affairs.  They offer a 5-day personalized training course, a 3-day extended weekend class, seminars and a home study program for Wedding Planners/Wedding Consultants.  At the completion of the course, graduates achieve certification, and benefit from the continuing education support system offered by the Association.

Following training and obtaining a business license, it is important to put together promotional items for your new company.  A professional website, business cards, brochures and other informational materials are key to convincing potential clients that you have the organization and the talent to make their wedding day a fairy tale.

Wedding Planner – While the position may be called wedding planner, bridal consultant, wedding consultant or wedding organizer, the mission is the same.  The wedding planner’s job is to ensure that all details of a wedding, from rehearsal to the last dance at the reception are to the clients’ liking.

If you enjoy helping to make people’s wedding memories as magical as possible, a career in wedding planning may be right for you.   With minimal startup requirements and a seemingly base of potential clients, this career may have you hearing bells. The most fun wedding favors are those that people keep talking about even after the wedding. Just make sure you choose them to match your own personal style and if it's actually something your guests can use, it will be appreciated even more.
